San Diego County Indigent Criminal Defense Grant Fund

Do you have an idea that could help indigent criminal defendants or the attorneys who represent them? A program that might help reduce recidivism? If so, The Fund is eager to hear more about your idea.

The Fund is a California not-for-profit corporation based in and serving San Diego County as an IRS and California approved 501(c)(3) organization. We received funding from a single grantor and have been continuously issuing grants to support creative indigent criminal defense work in San Diego County beginning immediately.

The Fund invites your letter, (1.5 pages or less), expressing your interest in a grant. You don't have to be a lawyer, and you don't have to have a project already up and running to submit a Letter of Interest (LOI), although both of those things are fine! The letter must express an idea and a plan for how you would spend money to further the interests of people with limited resources, accused or convicted of crimes.

We review the Letters of Interest and, if selected,we'll notify you and request a full grant application.
The applicants (potential grant recipient) must be an exempt 501(c)(3)organization or be sponsored by one. Your LOI should be sent electronically to the email address below (with the subject line of The Fund, Letter of Interest).

Please feel free to assist The Fund by disseminating our website link as far and wide within San Diego County as possible.

In Summary:

  • We are actively seeking grant recipients
  • Send us your Letter of Interest (LOI)
  • When approved, send us a full grant application, again via PDF attachment via email
